Cinema Morning
Our February cinema morning in the Regal Cinema was a screening of the recently released The Color Purple. It was great to see so many members out on a cold wet morning, but the response was that it was worth the effort. Many thanks to Killian and the crew at the cinema.
Coffee Morning – Cultural Companions
Tara O’Donoghue from Cultural Companions spoke at our last Coffee Morning and outlined the details of the concept. The aim is to provide increased opportunities for older people to engage in a range of events and activities by creating a network of like-minded people who are interested in arts and culture. The network allows them to arrange to accompany each other to events that they may not go to on their own.
A number of YARA members have now joined the network.
Launch of Message in a Bottle
There was a fantastic turnout at the recent Youghal Active Retirement Association and Youghal Credit Union’s Message in a Bottle launch in The Mall Arts Centre, Youghal.
Damian Carberry from Lyons Club of Ireland launched the initiative and explained how Message in a Bottle works – it consists of a plastic bottle containing a form detailing personal medical information. The bottle is then placed in the fridge with a green cross sticker to alert the emergency services. A similar green cross sticker can be placed inside the front door to indicate that the system is in place.
The MIAB bottles were available for all attendees at the launch and are now available in all branches of Youghal Credit Union.
We urge all our members to avail of this system – get the bottle, fill out the form and put it in the fridge. Put a green cross sticker on the fridge an inside the front door.
